Addictive game featuring multiple paths to victory

Lion Wing Publishing is bringing the Maid Knight Saga the story of Faltisia to the states thanks to a New Kickstarter campaignAnd we have all the details you need about the expected game here. Maid Knight Saga The Story of Faltisia is a school life simulation board game that features players choosing a character and working their way through three rounds on their way to becoming one of the country’s most respected protectors, the Maid Knights. The unique and ever-changing card crafting system rocks each round and requires adaptability while managing the student scoreboard and important goals require attention to the long game. There are a few things that can be woven into the experience to make it even better, but even without those extras, Maid Knight Saga: Faltisia’s satisfying and addictive core episode story and the set of ways to achieve your ultimate goals is without a doubt well worth your time.

There are two main boards that players should pay attention to as play progresses, the class schedule board and the student score board. Each player gets their own scoreboard while everyone follows the class schedule. Your scoreboard is where you keep track of your individual Attribute Score, which is broken down into four categories, including Strength (red), Intelligence (blue), Beauty (yellow), and Purity (green). You’ll need to reach a certain level to be able to get a temporary maid’s license, which will give you access to an impressive ability or a large number of MP points, which are factored into your score at the end of the three rounds.

Manipulating your scoreboard is where a lot of strategy reveals itself, as sometimes the cards in your deck require you to spend an attribute point to get another advantage, and you’ll have to see if the cost is worth it, considering what kind of lectures Scheduled during other rounds and other factors such as how much money you have and graduation requirements cards, which will either count towards your final score or subtract from that score at the end of the game.

Each round gets a little messy thanks to the crafting mechanic that makes you draw cards from the deck and then swipe them to your right or left and do so until all the cards are drawn. As the cards are swiped around, you’ll have to prioritize what you want to do as you go, and most likely you won’t get everything you want. This was fairly prevalent in rounds 2 and 3, meaning you may need to skip some classes to jump into off-campus activities that allow you to get money, rainbow tokens and more, although this may not be preferable as you may have already played Several cards reward you for attending lectures of a certain color.

For example, at one point my character Julia had several organizational cards on the board, which are continuous cards that give you an attribute code when attending a lecture of a certain color. The thing is, not all rewards are the same color as their lecture, so I had several cards attached to the blue lectures, which made me get multiple colors at once every time I attended a blue lecture. Since there was more in the timeline, I was able to move up the board quickly and get the license early in the second round, and it all tied into the cards I bought and played early in the first round. You can put them together and create a deadly domino effect if you play the cards right, but that doesn’t mean you can’t also go back if someone else comes out early ahead. You will just have to think outside the box about how to approach each turn.

Maid Knights artwork is vibrant and colorful, as are the sides of the scoreboard. I wish there was more of a Knight-style visual flair in the other boards and cards, as while there are great visuals on the cards and individual items, they aren’t quite as eye-catching or vibrant as the Knight designs. Once you reach Knight status you’ll usually get a powerful action as well, but after using one, this card is just like any other card (unless it has a larger MP value attached), and I’d love to see them play a bigger role as you progress in the game. If lasting effect wasn’t possible, perhaps some sort of unique skill that prompted them to start the game with a different attribute effect, would have helped in that regard. Again, nothing breaks the game, but these may have made the knights even more powerful and distinguished.

Even without these additions, I really enjoyed Maid Knight Saga: The Story of Faltisia, and that doesn’t even weigh on the new items The Battle for London expansion adds to the mix, which is also included in the Kickstarter campaign. For those looking for an experience that requires quick thinking and long-term strategy to achieve ultimate success, Maid Knight Saga might be the perfect game for you.

Maid Knight Saga: The Story of Faltisia is available at Kickstarter Starting June 28, you can find the Kickstarter campaign here!
